Training

Ranger training delivery can be through specific units of instruction or as an entire program. Training can be modularised to focus on the responsibilities required of individual ranger groups, including:

  • small craft handling, maintenance and navigation;
  • 4WD handling, recovery, maintenance and navigation;
  • chainsaw operation and maintenance;
  • basic, advanced and remote area first aid;
  • GPS;
  • navigation in remote and trackless areas;
  • chemical preparation and application, and supervision;
  • environmental monitoring and reporting;
  • control of feral animals and plants;
  • conduct of vertebrate pest control, including trapping or aerial shooting;
  • operations in isolated and remote situations;
  • working as a guide;
  • risk analysis;
  • Workplace Health and Safety;
  • small engine maintenance;
  • leadership and working as a team member;
  • interpret aspects of local indigenous culture;
  • working within an indigenous community or organisation; and
  • ranger patrols and surveillance of country/sea country
